ALCHEMY
GUILD
INTERNATIONAL ALCHEMY GUILD (IAG)
The
INTERNATIONAL ALCHEMY GUILD (IAG) is a group
of alchemists from around the world who come together to exchange views,
news, and research in the Hermetic arts and all forms of practical and spiritual alchemy.
The modern Guild was
formed by a confederation of practicing alchemists who trace their lineage back to
Wilhelm von Rosenberg. Von
Rosenberg founded the original "Alchymie Cech" (or Alchimie Gilde") in 1576 in a
small town midway between Prague and Vienna. The
last building used by the Guild from that era
still stands and is shown at right. See History of the
Guild. In 1968, the renewed Guild opened an office in Vienna, Austria, and
in 2000, a processing center was opened in the United States.
According to its Organization Plan,
the Guild has solar and lunar presidents.
The current lunar (Binah) president is Austrian organic chemist Hans Schimmer.
A
North American branch was
set up in 1998 by the Guild's solar (Chokmah) president, practicing alchemist Dennis William Hauck.
Currently, the Guild has members
in 23 nations with new branches being set up in Australia and India, as well as
dozens of new Local Chapters.
According to its charter, the purpose and goals of
this non-profit organization are as follows:
- To serve as a repository of alchemical knowledge and
techniques both ancient and modern.
- To support Guild members in their practical and
spiritual work in alchemy.
- To provide a forum for exchange of new techniques and
discoveries in alchemy.
- To release alchemical knowledge to the general public
at appropriate times.
The Guild presents
alchemy conferences, tours, and workshops around the world and disseminates free
information about alchemy to researchers and the media. We also publish
the Alchemy Journal and provide networking and
financial aid for alchemical websites in
the Alchemy Guild Network. The
Guild also issues awards to websites that demonstrate a high sense of
Hermetic awareness. See the Paracelsus Award.
The
Alchemy Guild
oversees the release of alchemical research from the
Guild Archives to the general public and
also organizes
public conferences on
alchemy. The Guild Archives are the largest collection of its kind in the world
and contain ancient texts, rare and unpublished books, alchemical
experiments and secret formulae, and private research papers from modern
alchemists.
